Yeah, I think like Steve said it's an interesting target group. You can really develop something "new" and useful. I read about a project of students: They used sound to help blind people. They examined different situations, for example blind people working at a computer. It could be interesting to make a specific interface for them. But I am afraid that we are doing sounddesign, finally. Another idea I read about was a glove which gives reactions to deaf people, for example if there is an ambulance,... nearby. I don't know how far away we can go from design as a layout. I mean, of course there are designers as sound engineers, .... But i think we can mix it up. ?
I saw that movie on enabledbydesign, that women had a point when she sad that disable people are similar to designers, they are looking for new solutions to improve their life
Has anybody worked with disabled people or know anyone with a disability such as deafness or blindness? Not to be negative or anything, without actual input from members of the target group how are we to find a problem and then a solution? It might seem condescending to assume that we are going to fix a problem in someones life without full awareness.
That's right. It is a lot of work to figuer this out. I know that some people of the HFG Gmuend in Germany made a Workshop about it. The text is in german, but the pictures are interesting. http://ig.hfg-gmuend.de/Members/benedikt_burgmaier/hochschulprojekte/kurzprojekt-minimaltastatur/?searchterm=blind Maybe it is just possible to take one little area.
I think this could be the idea for our Personalisation project,
ReplyDeletewhat do you think Catherina?
